Remember, remember the 5th of November

November 05, 2017

“Remember remember the fifth of November
Gunpowder, treason and plot.
I see no reason why gunpowder, treason
Should ever be forgot…”
Fireworks Night. This is one of my favourite times of the year. Hearing the crack of fireworks and seeing the pretty colours light up the sky is like a dream.

The true meaning:

The reason we celebrate bonfire night because it's the anniversary of an attempt to blow up the Houses of Parliament in the well known "Gunpowder Plot". Traditionally there will be a doll on the top of the bonfire that is being lit and is called the 'Guy'. This dummy represents Guy Fawkes, the man behind the gunpowder plot. We light fireworks to represent the explosives that were never lit by the plotters.

What it means to me:

On the 4th of November, my beloved grandad passed away so we celebrate it a day early, lighting fireworks in his memory. It is a sad time, however, watching the beautiful colours light up the sky is very enchanting. Also, fireworks are one of my favourite things so firework night makes me happy although the true meaning behind it is rather bad.

Don't forget to stay safe, keep warm and keep flames away from any fireworks you may have. More importantly, enjoy yourself! Here are some pictures that I captured from my firework night!

Thank you for reading and I hope you all have a lovely fireworks night tonight! Don't forget to share and comment down below what your favourite thing about bonfire night is!
Lots of love
